Individual Therapy

…a therapist for 18 years

I have been practicing as a therapist for 18 years, and specialize in individuals age 40 and up experiencing the natural challenges that arise from moving from one phase of life to another. My clients usually come to me when they experience a relationship loss, a family shift or even sudden shifts in career and health. These natural and yet painful changes can often be challenging to navigate on your own and you may need a calm, caring guide in those times of life that will help you see clearly and stay anchored to reality.

I use a playful, introspective and philosophical perspective to help you make meaning of the changes you are experiencing with the goal of helping you transform into a more peaceful and balanced state of mind.

We live in a very dynamic and polarized time, and most of us crave a place to belong and long for a sense of peace even in the maelstrom. Philosophical Counseling will help you gain unique-to-you insight and wisdom in order to thrive within the design of your life. Together we will explore how you are making meaning of what is happening, and help you gain insight into how you want to move through it gracefully and with wisdom and courage.

Ultimately, my goal is for you to learn new ways of thinking and being so that you no longer need therapy.

…what I have found

This is the part of the bio where a therapist usually tells you about their approaches, or how they love to hike with their dog. What I have found is that people just want to know if I can solve problems, and if they will feel better, no matter what therapy technique I use. I have a ton of trainings on cool therapeutic ideas and a ton of techniques that I have learned over the years. I even read fancy scholarly articles and books constantly about therapy (after all, it is my passion) but the best resource for solving your problems is….. you.

Only you know the particular way you need to change, and my job is to help you find what that is. I have utter respect and admiration for my clients and how they have navigated what life has thrown at them, and I do not pretend to be the expert of you. I can help you find out what you need to do. Sometimes that takes months, and sometimes years (don’t worry! With breaks from therapy.)

Frankly, I do everything in my power to not be one of those bad therapists we know are out there. You may have even been to a few. I know I have.

I get feedback, I consult with other therapists, and I also listen to you. I will not tell you how you should be, how you should define your history or your future, and I will not tell you how sick you are. I will help you recognize how well you are and help you remember how your life is a treasure worth living each day.
